Magma Chalice

Chalice corals are prized for their vivid colours and swirling, almost painted-looking patterns, and Magma lives up to its name with genuinely dramatic, fiery-toned colouring. The heavily-tissued, fleshy body gives it real texture and depth under decent lighting, and it’s a coral that rewards a bit of patience — chalices grow slowly but reliably once settled.

Chalice corals also extend sweeper tentacles at night to catch food, so it’s worth giving this one a bit of breathing room from its neighbours.

Care basics

  • Lighting: Low to moderate. Chalices can bleach under overly intense light, so this one does best lower in the tank.
  • Flow: Low to moderate, indirect. Strong direct flow can damage the tissue.
  • Water chemistry: Stable calcium, alkalinity and magnesium matter more than chasing exact numbers.
  • Feeding: Not required, but it will take fine coral foods and micro-plankton if offered.
  • Placement: Give it space from neighbouring corals — like other chalices, it extends short sweeper tentacles at night.

Supplied as a frag on a 3cm frag plug.
