Candy Cane Neon Green Coral
Candy Cane coral (Caulastrea) is one of the most recognisable LPS species in the hobby, and this Neon Green variant is a particularly vivid one — bright green fleshy heads that puff up nicely under good lighting and flow. It’s a great choice if you’re moving from softies and zoas into your first LPS, since it’s forgiving and grows at a manageable pace rather than demanding constant attention.
Each head branches from the base over time, so a small frag will slowly turn into a cluster of heads rather than spreading as a mat.
Care basics
- Lighting: Moderate to high. Tolerates a fairly wide range, but stronger light tends to bring out the best colour.
- Flow: Moderate and indirect. Avoid blasting it with direct, heavy flow — this can damage the polyps.
- Water chemistry: Stable calcium, alkalinity and magnesium matter more than chasing exact numbers.
- Feeding: Not required, but it will happily take larger meaty foods or powdered foods like Reef-Roids if offered.
- Placement: Give it room. Like other Euphyllia relatives, it can extend sweeper tentacles at night and sting neighbouring corals that are placed too close.
