Toxic Green Star Polyp Colony

This is a punchier take on a reef-keeping classic — Green Star Polyp with genuinely vivid green colouring and a bright white centre to each polyp, standing out clearly against the more muted green of standard GSP. Under decent lighting the effect is striking: a dense carpet of tiny star-shaped flowers waving in the flow.

GSP is one of the easiest corals in the hobby and a great confidence-builder if you’re newer to reefkeeping — it tolerates a wide range of conditions and will happily encrust rock, glass, or plastic. Worth knowing it’s also a fast, enthusiastic spreader: left unchecked it will grow over anything nearby, so many keepers isolate it on its own plug or rock island rather than letting it loose on the main aquascape.

Care basics

  • Lighting: Low to moderate. Tolerates a genuinely wide range, including lower light setups.
  • Flow: Low to moderate. Gentle, indirect flow keeps the polyps waving nicely without stressing them.
  • Water chemistry: Doesn’t need the calcium/alkalinity precision that hard corals do, but stable parameters overall keep it healthiest.
  • Feeding: Not required — it gets most of its energy from light.
  • Placement: Give it its own space or a contained plug/rock, since it will overgrow slower corals if left to spread freely.

Supplied as a colony on a 3cm frag plug, with the same number of polyps as pictured.
