Toxic Green & Blue Cyphastrea

Toxic Green & Blue Cyphastrea carries a bright, saturated green encrusted base dotted all over with small nodular polyps, each tipped in a contrasting blue that pops under lighting. Cyphastrea is a fast-growing SPS coral and, unusually for the category, considered easy to keep, making it a solid entry point if you’re moving into SPS for the first time.

Given the right conditions, it will continue to encrust outward and cover more surface area fairly quickly compared to many other SPS corals.

Care basics

  • Lighting: Moderate.
  • Flow: Strong and random.
  • Water chemistry: Stable calcium, alkalinity and magnesium matter more than chasing exact numbers, as with other SPS corals.
  • Feeding: Not required — it gets most of its energy from light.
  • Placement: Peaceful, but will encrust and spread over time, so give it room to grow.
