Grinch Encrusting Montipora

Grinch earns its name with a genuinely fun colour combination — a bright green encrusting base scattered with vivid red, polka-dot polyps, giving the whole piece a distinctive, almost festive look that stands out clearly against plainer corals nearby. Montipora are known for coming in a huge range of striking colours while staying fairly easy to keep, and this one is a good example of both.

Encrusting Montipora spreads outward over rock or plugs as it grows, so this piece will gradually cover more surface area over time given decent conditions.

Care basics

  • Lighting: Low to moderate.
  • Flow: Low to moderate, indirect.
  • Water chemistry: Stable calcium, alkalinity and magnesium matter more than chasing exact numbers.
  • Feeding: Not required — it gets most of its energy from light.
  • Placement: Peaceful and easy to place, though it will slowly encrust and spread outward over time.
